Ravenna: cose da non perdere.

Basilica of Saint  Francis

Here took place the funeral of Dante, the "Supreme Poet." Of the original construction is almost nothing left, except for the floor. The structure is very simple, striking the 33 meter high bell tower.

Neonian Baptistery

This is ‘ the oldest monument of Ravenna, the works for its construction began in the 300. The shape of the building is  an octagon and inside we will impress the alternation of colors and harmonies due to the use of marble and mosaics

Basilica di Santa Maria in Porto

The facade of the basilica impresses with its grandeur. Its interior is divided into three naves and the dome is 48 meters high.

Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe

It is located outside the city center of Ravenna in the archaeological area of Classe. Its construction dates back to the early 500 and as History says its interior is full of sarcophagi and mosaics. The interior decorations are the mosaic depiction of Jesus Christ, St. Luke and St. Matthew.

Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo

La Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuova è opera di Teodorico che la dedicò all’arianesimo. Quando i Goti vennero cacciati dalla città venne riabilitata al cristianesimo e dedicata a San Martino di Tours. Venne dedicata a Sant’Apollinare solo del 1850.

Battistero degli Ariani

It’s dedicated to the Arian cult but when this doctrine was put to tender the construction became an oratory dedicated to Santa Maria.

Basilica di San Giovanni Evangelista

It was built due to a vote of Galla Placidia that almost died on the return trip to Ravenna because of a heavy storm at sea. Initially the church was adorned with mosaics now remain largely frescoes depicting the Evangelists.

The Rasponi crypt is a paved mosaic chapel. The gardens are full of bushes with a beautiful central fountain designed by architect Arata.

Inside the site we see 14 mosaic flooring and mosaic of the "Dance of the Seasons" genes and that of the "Good Shepherd".
